Academic Resources
Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather around the table and share in each other’s blessings. Your students will be home, some for the first time this semester, and ready for a home-cooked meal they can enjoy without waiting in cafeteria lines. While you are enjoying the company of your college student, take the opportunity to encourage him or her to start preparing for the end of the semester, and the final exams and projects which are just around the corner.
Here are some suggestions for your student:
- Stay in close contact with professors. The more comfortable students are with them, the easier it will be to…
– Ask questions
– Get clear on the syllabus and course expectations – know what is coming and how to study for it.
- Start studying now. Don’t wait until the last minute to cram.
– For specific study strategies, ask the professor.
– Additional suggestions and study tips can be found on our website, www.gonzaga.edu/academicservices.
– Consider Tutoring.
- Tutoring for Academic Success provides information about free tutoring resources on campus, and if needed, connects students to a course-specific Tutor for weekly one-on-one tutorial meetings. For more information, or to request a tutor, click here.
- Manage time well.
– Gonzaga’s Counseling Center or an Academic Success Coach can help with this important organizational skill.
- Participate in stress-reducing activities when not studying or attending class
– Exercise, intramurals, getting more and better sleep, and spending time with friends are a few ideas.
If your student needs more specific, targeted help with coursework, studying, academic planning, or anything related to their academic experience here at Gonzaga, please encourage him or her to make an appointment with an advisor in Academic Services. We can be reached by phone, 509-313-4072, by e-mail, advise@gonzaga.edu, or in person, College Hall 326.
We wish your family many blessings this Holiday Season!
