EVEN SILENCE HAS AN END: My Six Years of Captivity in the Colombian Jungle

Join us for the Spring 2012 Presidential Speaker, Ingrid Betancourt on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 P.M.

As a Colombian Presidential candidate in 2002, Ms. Betancourt was taken captive by FARC guerrillas and held for over six years until she her rescue by the Colombian army. She considers her release a miracle and, despite many degradations suffered during her captivity, endurance was made possible by her faith in God. As a political activist in the 1990s, Ms. Betancourt worked actively to curb drug trafficking and corruption in Colombia, and she gained international recognition as an advocate for democracy.

Her presentation will focus on her life experience and her ongoing campaign to free hostages still held by the FARC in the Colombian rain forest, providing our community with a unique opportunity to hear from an individual whose life has been immutably intertwined with the political realities of Colombia — our Jesuit twin province in South America.
