WHOOPING COUGH
HELPFUL HEALTH CENTER TIDBITS RE: WHOOPING COUGH
- Due to the epidemic of whooping cough (pertussis) in our area, please make sure your student has had a Tdap booster since 2006. The single most effective control measure is maintaining the highest possible level of immunization in the community.
- If your student has a mild upper respiratory infection which resembles the common cold, including sneezing, runny nose, low grade fever, and a mild cough, encourage your student to come to the Student Health Center for evaluation.
- If your student has had a known close exposure to a person with whooping cough, they should see a provider for antibiotics to help prevent infection and the spread of disease.
- Send your student in for a flu shot. Flu season will soon be here.
- If you have any questions, please call the Health Center at 509-313-4066. We are located at 704 East Sharp (corner of Dakota and Sharp). Students may make an appointment or walk-in. We are open Monday-Friday 8 – 5, except Tuesday we open at 10 am.
- You may access more information about whooping cough at the Spokane Regional Health District website. www.srhd.org
