Welcome From Zag Dining
By: Cheryl Kaine
Welcome to Fall at Gonzaga University! It’s always an exciting time, but this year is especially dynamic. The COG is gone, and Zag Dining has moved the campus dining hall into the Marketplace at the BARC. This bright and modern facility at the corner of Hamilton and Desmet will be our home for the next two years. Marketplace at the BARC is the main location where student meal plan swipes are accepted (as well as Dining Dollars, Bulldog Bucks). Our focus is on fresh, delicious food that brings the community together at the table. Every meal will feature a variety of stations from classic to exotic. We are especially excited to introduce Simple Servings, a single station dedicated to preparing fresh, flavorful dishes without any of the following: wheat, soy, dairy, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, or eggs. Look for the Simple Servings banner at the Marketplace and enjoy seamless healthy dining. Our culinary staff is serious about providing the best food experience possible. Students are welcome to meet with our Chef or Dietician to discuss food and nutrition concerns, and we are committed to meeting individual needs while providing a central community atmosphere where students can meet, eat, relax and make new friends.
In other news, SubConnection has also moved to a bigger, better, fresher spot on the ground floor of Welch Hall. Look for our grand opening the first week of school and help us celebrate! The new SubConnection features two sandwich lines for faster service, more seating, an expanded menu including breakfast sandwiches, and late night hours, too!
Have you heard? Einstein’s Bagels will be opening its doors in Cataldo this fall. Fresh baked bagels, sandwiches, pastries, and their darn good coffee will be ready to enjoy all day long, and late night, too.
Tilford’s coffee shop has been renamed Margie’s at Tilford’s, in honor of Margie Card, the shop’s supervisor who took such amazing care of her guests and staff. With this tribute we hope to keep her spirit of service thriving in the Gonzaga community.
For a complete list of all the Zag Dining restaurants and cafes on the Gonzaga Campus, check our web site at www.zagdining.com. All our dining locations accept Dining Dollars, Bulldog Bucks, cash and credit/debit. Meal plan swipes are valid only at the Marketplace and Marketplace Express.
What are Bulldog Bucks, you ask? Gonzaga University and Zag Dining created a special program with local restaurants to give our students more dining variety. Bulldog Bucks are loaded right onto student ID cards and can be used both on and off campus at participating locations. Account balances carry over each semester. Special deals and discounts stretch your dollar further. Best of all, you can be sure of parent-approved spending, because Bulldog Bucks can only be used for food purchases! Call the Zag Dining Office at (509) 313-6906 to add Bulldog Bucks to your student’s account any time.
Or, visit us in person: Zag Dining Offices are now located in the white house across from Marketplace at the BARC, at 1027 N. Hamilton Avenue. Students have the first week to make changes to their meal plan, and this is the place to get that done! Stop by, or call us at (509)313-6906, and say “hi” to Lisa, Adam, and Kris. They will be happy to help make meal plan decisions easier, reload Bulldog Bucks to your student’s account, or answer any questions you may have about the dining options available in our community.
The shakeup on campus doesn’t stop there! Flavours Catering is now located in the campus cottage at 729 E Desmet Avenue. Flavours Catering is Gonzaga’s full service caterer, available for events large and small, on campus or around town. And students can check out Flavours Shoestring Catering, a casual catering option designed just for students!
As you can see, there is a lot going on! And that is really just the beginning. Our mission, first and foremost, is to fuel and support our Gonzaga students and community so they can get the most out of every day. We invite everyone to get out there and explore! Look for fun events and offers at all our campus restaurants throughout the year. Let us know when you like something or want to see something different, and we will listen. We recognize dining together is an important part of building our community. We are here to support our students as they face a new season of challenges, and we are excited to be a part of the Gonzaga experience!
