Career Development Resources
By: Meredith Aronson, Career Center & GAMP
Here on campus, students are back from winter break and the semester is quickly kicking into gear. Classes are in full swing and students have redeveloped their routines following the holiday.
As the semester picks up, it is all too easy for students to get caught up in the present. At the Career Center, we offer students valuable resources as they plan for the future. Our staff of 12 is ready to help your student secure an internship or that first postgraduate job. Encourage your student to schedule an appointment at the Career Center, which can open the door to gaining professional experience and pursuing meaningful life’s work. Students can also make use of our online resources on our website: www.gonzaga.edu/careercenter. Below is a description of a few of the resources we offer online, but remind your student that the best way to get engaged in his or her career development is to just stop by our office!
- ZagTrax is an online job board and relationship manager maintained by our office for the sole use of the Gonzaga community. It connects students to internship and employment opportunities around the country, and it also allows students to maintain an electronic portfolio, including résumés, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Encourage your student to visit www.ZagTrax.net and see what opportunities await!
- GlassDoor is a free jobs and career community that offers a peek inside certain companies through “employee generated content.” Users can find anonymous salary information, company reviews, sample interview questions and much more. As your student considers options, give a friendly reminder to visit GlassDoor for some insider perspective.
- The NACE Salary Calculator informs jobseekers about average salary ranges based on occupation, education, experience and location.
- “What Can I Do With This Major?” is a great website generated by the University of Tennessee to help students connect majors to careers. It is a great resource for students who are exploring different fields, or considering a change in majors.
- We also offer downloadable guides for students at all stages of career development. Students can download handouts on networking etiquette, cover letter and résumé development, and interviewing strategies. Students who invest quality time revising résumés and preparing for interviews have a significant advantage over the unprepared applicant.
Encourage your student to log into ZagTrax today to schedule an appointment with one of our career coaches, or to just stop by to figure out how to get started! Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm (even during school breaks like Winter Break and Spring Break). We are very excited to meet your student and help get the ball rolling on his or her career development!
