DECA International Competition

Fifteen Gonzaga University students returned from Washington DC this week after participating in the Collegiate DECA 53rd International Career Development Conference, which hosted 1,600 students from colleges across the U.S. and abroad.
Taking first place in the Retail Management event was Nathan Young, a senior from Oak Harbor, Washington who is concentrating in Economics, Marketing, and Political Science. Receiving third place honors in the International Marketing event was the team of Gena Hoxha, a senior Hogan Entrepreneurial Program student concentrating in multiple business and language areas from Shkoder, Albania, and Sasha Olson, a junior concentrating in Marketing, International Business and HR Management from Oak Harbor, Washington.
Five additional students were awarded Top 10 Awards in each of their respective competitions: Amanda Johnson, Cade Miller, and Mary Claire Squires, all freshmen, for Advertising Campaign; Tabish Mohammad, MBA student, for Retail Management; and Colin Phelps, freshman, for Hospitality and Tourism.
All GU students were award winners at the Washington State DECA Competition in February, which qualified them to advance to the International Conference in the nation’s capital April 23-27.
