Guide Maps
By: Kelly Alvarado, First Year Experience Programs
Orientation Weekend may be over, but the transition support we offer to new students at Gonzaga is not over! Your student will be invited to participate in GUide Maps – a collective of campus wide events, information sessions, activities, personal challenges and tips each week for new students integrating into the Gonzaga University community. The focus of GUide Maps is to meet the needs of first year students over the course of the first six weeks of school and provide a continued introduction into the GU community.
During Orientation Weekend, the students were briefly introduced to the program. Now they’ll begin to see information around campus. Each week the First Year Experience Programs office windows, in Crosby 110, will display a breakdown of the activities occurring.
Zagtivities is a program offered through the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. Encourage your student to activate their Zagtivities account (gonzaga.edu/zagtivities) by logging in with their GU (Zagmail) username (no @extension needed) and password. Your student will have a personal bulletin board of information about events and activities. They will receive an invitation to join First Year Experience Programs. Every time they check into events they earn a chance to win a $50 Zagshop gift certificate, which was donated by a GU alum who wishes to give back and welcome our newest students.
Each week will feature an overarching theme for your student to begin developing healthy behaviors toward becoming an engaged, academically successful community member.
Week 1, September 1 – 7: Scheduling and Time Management
Week 2, September 8 – 14: Getting Involved
Week 3, September 15 – 21: Developing Your Study Plan
Week 4, September 22 – 28: Balancing Life as a Student
Week 5, September 29 – October 5: Here Come Midterms
Week 6, October 6 – 12: You Made It!
Transition is a process that can take time. First Year Experience Programs is available to support your Zag as they become a thriving, successful member of our community. Feel free to stop by my office, Crosby Student Center, Room 110, anytime you are on campus or during Fall Family Weekend October 24 – 26, 2014.
