So, You Filed the FAFSA… Now What?
By: Sarah Gill, Financial Aid
Hopefully you have filed the 2015-16 FAFSA if you have a student who will be attending college any time in the 2015-2016 school year. If not, you can still file; just be sure to do so quickly at www.fafsa.gov, as some funds are awarded first-come, first-served.
You probably didn’t have your 2014 taxes completed and filed when you submitted the FAFSA, but you will want to update that information when you do! The FAFSA has an IRS Data Transfer tool that can transfer your tax information directly from the IRS into the FAFSA. A family can complete the IRS data transfer two weeks after filing a tax return electronically, and four to six weeks after filing a tax return via paper (Note: the IRS transfer tool isn’t typically available for use until the end of March). Once you use the IRS data transfer, you will want to re-submit your FAFSA so that we receive the updated information.
If you have any questions or need guidance on how to update your FAFSA information, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (800) 793-1716 or finaid@gonzaga.edu.
