Gonzaga U. Appoints O. Ray Angle, Assistant Vice President for CPD

While you have been getting ready to bring your Zag to campus for the beginning of the new school year, we have been gearing up for the year by making some exciting changes in career development at Gonzaga. First, what was formerly the Career Center & Gonzaga Alumni Mentor Program (GAMP) will now be the Center for Career & Professional Development. This new name comes with a new location on the main floor of the Crosby Center with lots of space to meet the needs of all students with dynamic programming, including document reviews, networking practice, and even career discernment workshops and self-assessments.

But those aren’t all of the changes we have made this summer! We are particularly excited to announce our new leader in career development, O. Ray Angle. Ray joins us from UNC Chapel Hill and has only recently taken over as Assistant Vice President for Career and Professional Development here at Gonzaga. He is eager to jump in with the rest of us and get to work creating connections with and opportunities for Gonzaga students. As you can see in his bio below, he brings a great deal of experience and passion to his work. But first, here are a few welcome remarks directly from Ray:

Dear Gonzaga Parents and Family Members,

The start of a new academic year is always exciting because it holds such promise and hope for fresh starts, new relationships and interesting experiences.  This year is especially exhilarating for me because I am also embarking on a new adventure.  Last week I drove over 2,600 miles from Chapel Hill, North Carolina to Spokane, Washington to begin serving as the Assistant Vice President for Career and Professional Development here.  This role is an exciting new position that stems from Gonzaga’s desire to foster a campus-wide commitment to the success of our students and I am honored to have been chosen to lead this effort. 

Furthermore, I am looking forward to leading the Center for Career & Professional Development team as we help your students clarify and attain their career goals.  My hope and prayer for the 2015-2016 academic year is that Gonzaga will deliver on all of your expectations and that, as your students grow as lifelong learners, you will also grow as families.  I look forward to being a part of the Gonzaga community – a community that you have entrusted to educate and support your students.

Ray Angle’s Bio
Ray has more than 29 years of experience in college career services and teaching.  On August 10th he began serving as the Assistant Vice President for Career and Professional Development at Gonzaga University.  He previously served in career center director roles at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cal State East Bay, Webster University, and Millikin University.

Recognized as a visionary leader in career services, he has been invited to speak domestically and internationally on a variety of topics including career and professional skill development and leadership.  He currently serves on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Board of Directors, and has served as President of the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers (Midwest ACE).  In 2014 he was inducted into the NACE Academy of Fellows.  Ray has been the recipient of several professional awards including Midwest ACE’s J.W. Paquette Superior Leadership Award, North Carolina ACE’s Outstanding Professional Award, and UNC Chapel Hill’s Outstanding Encouragement of Learning and Development Award.

Ray is from Granite City, Illinois.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a master’s degree from the University of Central Missouri.  He was a student in Gonzaga’s Leadership Studies doctoral program from 2001 to 2006.
