Spotlight on: Center for Cura Personalis
Latin pop quiz… can you translate Cura Personalis? If you came up with “care for the whole person”, you win! Cura Personalis highlights a hallmark of Jesuit education: The individual, holistic care for students and all aspects of their being. At Gonzaga, we are fortunate to have an entire department that focuses on promoting holistic student well-being – the Center for Cura Personalis. Staff in the Center for Cura Personalis, or CCP, engage students in well-being education, as well as responding to immediate needs of those who are struggling or are in crisis, by way of three major functional areas:
Case Management – Case managers work one-on-one with students to provide extra support by connecting them to the on-or off -campus resources that will be the most helpful, providing follow-up, creating an environment of caring accountability and helping students navigate challenge.
Well-Being & Prevention Education – The professional staff of this area team up with student peer educators to provide the Gonzaga community with student-centered, harm reduction approaches to living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Their focus is to empower students to make choices in support of their personal goals that affect their physical and mental well-being such as alcohol, marijuana, sleep, stress, relationships and nutrition.
Collegiate Recovery Community (O.U.R. House) – Gonzaga’s Collegiate Recovery Community is a supportive environment that promotes healing and on-going sobriety for students in recovery from substance use. Our Unique Recovery (O.U.R.) House provides a safe space for students to gather on campus and receive peer support through holistic activities and events, weekly meetings, advocacy, resources and outside referral assistance.
