Midterm Resource: The Center for Student Academic Success
The leaves have changed colors, the snow has started to fall on campus and midterm grades have been posted. Fall is officially here. Do you know how your student is doing in their courses? Are they struggling to adjust to the demands of their schedule? Many students struggle during the fall semester. If they are in their freshman year, everything is new and figuring it all out can be a challenge. Sophomore year can be just as challenging, as the students face busier and more demanding schedules. If your student is struggling, it is important to address the issues sooner, rather than later. There are numerous resources on campus and we all want to help your student to succeed. One important and available resource is the Center for Student Academic Success (CSAS). As a center, we strive to empower students to become active and independent learners in pursuit of their own academic success.
CSAS is located on the first and second floors of Foley Library. We are open Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. As a center, we provide academic support for students and faculty. The center is composed of four offices: Academic Advising and Assistance (AAA), Disability Access (DA), the Academic Testing Center (ATC) and Learning Strategies Management (LSM).
Academic Advising and Assistance (AAA) provides academic support to Gonzaga’s undergraduate students and faculty. In-class instructions, partnerships with campus resources and individual academic advising sessions create a comprehensive approach to student support. Programs and services include, but are not limited to: professional academic advising, new student registration, academic recovery and one-on-one and group advising on academic issues. Contact: advising@gonzaga.edu or 509-313-4072.
Disability Access (DA) exists to determine accommodations for students with documented conditions that significantly impact their academic success or overall experience at GU. Disability Access establishes accommodations for students with disabilities and supports faculty and staff in providing those accommodations. Contact: disability@gonzaga.edu or 509-313-4134.
The Academic Testing Center (ATC) provides proctoring services for faculty that are unable to administer testing accommodations in their classroom or department. These services are currently limited to students with documented testing accommodations. Contact: testingcenter@gonzaga.edu or 509-313-5535.
Learning Strategies Management (LSM) provides a collaborative environment that empowers students to be active and independent learners and helps them discover tools to create their success. They do this by offering course specific tutoring, peer mentor strategy sessions, workshops and meetings with a Learning Specialist. They encourage self-determination, self-advocacy and accountability by educating students on organization, planning, time management, goal setting and study strategies.
