Center for Student Academic Success: Offices and Their Services
“Empowering students to be active and independent learners in pursuit of their academic success.” That is the mission of the Center for Student Academic Success (CSAS). Located in Foley Library, CSAS is composed of four offices who work together to support the faculty and students of Gonzaga University.
The office of Academic Advising and Assistance(Foley 122) provides academic support to Gonzaga’s undergraduate students and faculty. In-class instructions, partnerships with campus resources, and individual academic advising sessions create a comprehensive approach to student support. Programs and services include, but are not limited to:
- Professional academic advising
- New student registration
- Academic recovery
- Academic crisis response through Refer
- Academic policy navigation
- One-on-one and group advising on academic issues
- Campus partner referrals
Disability Access (Foley 208) establishes accommodations for students with disabilities as well as supporting faculty and staff in providing those accommodations. Disability Access (DA) may arrange or provide academic adjustments, accommodations, auxiliary aids, assistive technology, and other types of assistance for students with disabilities. Applying for accommodation is a voluntary, self-identifying process – initiated by the student.
- Students: DA provides access services to Gonzaga University’s programs, services, activities, and facilities for qualified students with disabilities in compliance with federal and state laws
- Parents: We aim to help you understand the differences between high school and college accommodation plans. Our resources will also help you to understand and prepare for the adjustment and self-advocacy challenges your student may face during the transition to accessing accommodations at the postsecondary level
The Learning Strategies Management (Foley 203) division works with students to develop strategies to enhance academic performance, including but not limited to organization, planning, time management, goal setting, learning styles, and more through the work of on-staff Strategic Learning Specialists. Learning Strategies Management (LSM) also organizes and facilitates several other important resources for students:
- Digital Learning Studio
- The Digital Learning Studio offers strategies and worksheets relating to organization, time management, study strategies, and more. This is the first stop for students who are feeling like they are not achieving the academic success that they way.
- Tutor and peer mentoring
- Academic workshops
The Academic Testing Center (Foley 203) provides video monitored proctoring services to faculty that are unable to administer disability related exam accommodations in their classroom or department. However, the Academic Testing Center (ATC) is also a great place to study. All students may access the center for studying after 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and during weekend library hours.
The CSAS offices are open all summer, Monday – Friday from 8-12 and 1-5pm (closing only for campus holidays or out-of-office meetings).
