Fall Is a Good Time to Look at the Financial Literacy Landscape
By: Financial Aid
It’s fall and a brand new academic year has begun! Everyone at Gonzaga is excited to see students arrive, and there is always plenty of excitement around the start of a new year.
Along with meeting up with new and old friends, as well as settling into classes and academic expectations, getting schooled on money matters may be just as beneficial. Even though your student has a financial aid package, it’s important to know what loans they have and what repayment will look like. Becoming more financially literate will help students take ownership of their future and will assist them in making smart money decisions now that should alleviate some of the high cost of loan repayment later.
Keep the following in mind! Taking a look at the cost difference for both housing and meal plans that a student chooses, can make a difference. Keeping credits on track can save the cost of an extra year’s tuition, along with how much extra is truly needed for study abroad. Has your student considered working to contribute toward tuition costs? Is a car really necessary? Just taking a look at what money is being spent on can provide hints at how to save.
So, along with a conversation about spending habits, the Financial Aid website has some very useful information for both families and students about financial literacy.
