Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means finals are looming for your student.  While you’re enjoying holiday meals with your college student, take the opportunity to encourage him/her to start preparing for the end of the semester, final exams and projects.

Here are some suggestions you can pass on to your student:

  • Stay in close contact with professors.  The more comfortable students are with them, the easier it will be to…
  • Ask questions – remember, knowledge is power!
  • Get clarity on the syllabus and course expectations – know what is coming and how to study for it.
  • Start studying now.  Don’t wait until the last minute to cram.
For specific study strategies, ask the professor.

We also provide suggestions and study tips on our Web site, www.gonzaga.edu/academicservices.

  • Manage time well. Gonzaga’s Counseling Center or an Academic Success Coach can help with this important organizational skill.
  • Participate in stress-reducing activities when not studying or attending class. Exercise, intramurals, developing good sleep patterns, and spending time with friends are a few ideas.
  • If one-on-one support is important for your student, encourage him/her to sign up for an Academic Success Coach, still available for students.  To learn more about this great program, click here.

Best wishes for your time with your student, and here’s to a successful conclusion to their first semester at Gonzaga!
