Building Community is truly what we stand for. We are UMEC, Gonzaga’s Unity Multicultural Education Center, and enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life.  To our office, Fall Family Weekend will be a great time to build community through our Mocktails & a Movie night. UMEC’s programming is always intentional, even for the film we’re showing, Toy Story 3.  We want parents and their children to team up and exercise their critical thinking skills.  After the film is shown,  keeping with the Gonzaga University tradition of reflection, we want all to discuss how the movie may have connected with their lives. To give you a snap shot of the storyline of the film, it’s about a young man leaving for his college journey and the things he leaves behind.  I think families could definitely connect with this film about letting go and moving on.  Oh…not to mention the free mocktails that families can enjoy during the movie.

This event will not only link UMEC with our students’ great parents, but build community with the Parent and Family Program and the Student Wellness Resource Center.  UMEC puts on once a month Friday programs (either Mocktails & a Movie or Cultural Awareness Night) to be a free alternative resource for students looking for something positive to do on a Friday night.  So don’t forget, Mocktails & a Movie, Friday October 21st at 7pm in the Foley Teleconference Room.

Remember, it’s all free!  For more information on the Unity Multicultural Education Center (UMEC) go to Gonzaga.edu/UMEC or call (509)313-5836.
