Thanksgiving is upon us and the time for families to gather around the table and share in each other’s blessings has arrived. For some students, it will be their first time returning home since they stepped out into the unknown and embarked on their collegiate journey. For others it will be the first time they are able to enjoy a home-cooked meal, and an opportunity to exchange engaging stories with old friends. For ALL students it will be a chance to exhale and enjoy some space from preparation for finals. While you are enjoying the company of your college student, please encourage him or her to reflect on their time here at Gonzaga University and to celebrate their learning experiences to date. Upon their return they will continue to prepare for the end of the semester and the final exams and projects that await them.
Here are some suggestions for your student:
Stay in close contact with professors. The more comfortable students are with them, the easier it will be to…
- Ask questions.
- Clarify course syllabus and expectations – know what’s coming and how to study for it.
Start studying now. Don’t wait until the last minute to cram.
- For specific study strategies, ask the professor.
- Additional suggestions and study tips can be found on our website.
- Consider Tutoring.
Manage time well.
- Gonzaga’s Counseling Center can help with this important organizational skill.
Participate in stress-reducing activities when not studying or attending class
- Exercise, intramurals, sleeping more and getting better sleep, and spending time with friends are a few ideas.
If your student needs more specific help with coursework, studying, academic planning, or anything related to their academic experience at Gonzaga, please encourage him or her to make an appointment with an advisor in the Office of Academic Advising and Assistance. We can be reached by phone, at 509-313-4072, by e-mail at email@example.com, or in person in College Hall 104.
