Christian Life Community

Become, Believe, Be Sent

The hunger for wholeness is a life-long desire for us humans. Our activities, spirituality, relationships, job, religion, are means to a greater understanding of our vocation — the response to the desire for wholeness God has placed in our hearts. It is difficult to embark on this journey without facing more fundamental questions like: “Who am I?” and “How is God working through me?”

As a church, we are a community in mission to make the kingdom of God a reality in our world today. Christian Life Community, or CLC, is the newest program at University Ministry. Rooted back to the practice of St. Ignatius during his time in University, CLC’s goal is to create small group communities (about 6-8 students) that invite students to deepen their spiritual growth. It strives to strengthen their understanding of a mission to become part of the world as men and women for and with others informed by Christ’s compassionate love.

Students are invited to come together in small groups to reflect, pray and share with one another in a meaningful way.  Rooted in Ignatian Spirituality and scripture, CLC empowers students to journey together as they discern the movement of God in their lives.  These small groups meet weekly and are made up of students from various Christian traditions. In a world that equates uniformity to unity, CLC’s diversity under a common mission calls us to become our fullest potential, to believe in the reality of God’s love, and to be sent out with the courage as men and women meant to transform the world. “Everyone has a unique relationship with God,” says Levi Pauley, sophomore and member of CLC, “[CLC] has led me to realize that though our group may have different theologies or opinions, at the end of the day we are all loved by God”

Our small groups are coupled by fun events which are a great way for students to make friends and build long lasting relationships. From our Halloween “Fright Night” party to our “Bubble of Sanity” event that transforms the CLC House into a place of peace, relaxation and comfort during the week before finals, Christian Life Community caters the spiritual and social needs of our students.

Seventeen small groups are currently meeting weekly at our very own CLC House on campus. So how does the college experience, education, social life, and spiritual life lead us to a greater understanding of who we are and  how God works through us? Let’s talk about it! We are here to listen.
