Parents and families play a vital role in the lives of students and the Gonzaga community. They are an essential part of the support network and their dedication and determination help our students achieve their higher education goals.

We honor the commitment of two such parents – Kevin and Kelly Smith. Kevin and Kelly have spent the last few years as members of the Parent and Family Council and as co-chairs of the Parent and Family Campaign. As their Zag graduates, they transition out of these volunteer roles.

Both positions involved serving as a conduit from the parent community to the school administration and back again. On the council they provided guidance on concerns involving students and the school as a whole. As campaign co-chairs, they endorsed fundraising messages to parents about the needs of the University.

“We get to participate in the greater reach of Gonzaga,” the Smiths said. “We have had the opportunity to broaden our view of collegiate education and revisit its value toward strengthening a network of family and friends that stretches well beyond four years of schooling.”

The Smiths know that parent giving is integral to sustaining the Gonzaga Experience. The Parent and Family Campaign is an important component of Gonzaga’s Annual Campaign, which helps meet the University’s greatest needs each year through the Fund for Gonzaga. Gifts to this enterprise support everything from student scholarships and budget-relieving funds to the maintenance of facilities and services students rely on every day.

“It is valuable to support Gonzaga to maintain and grow the programs and experience that make the school unique,” they said. “There is a greater sense of being a participant in the school by contributing and we have learned that it can be done in so many very simple ways.”

Kevin and Kelly Smith have been inspiring representatives not only of the Parent and Family Council, but of the University. They truly embody what it means to be devoted members of the Zag family. Thank you, Kevin and Kelly, for all you have done for Gonzaga.
