Joey Sammut, Director of Residence Life

The leaves have barely begun to change here in Spokane, and yet it’s time for you and your student to start coordinating travel plans for the holiday season! I hope the information below will help guide your decision-making in the matter! Your student should look for more information from their RA and a newsletter from the Housing Office later in the semester. If your student has questions in the meantime, have them ask their RA or RD.

THANKSGIVING
All residence halls and university-owned apartments and houses remain open for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Residence Life will typically take a “head count” of who is staying over the break for security and wellness purposes.  There are student staff and professional staff on duty during the entire Thanksgiving holiday.  Sodexo will provide limited on-campus dining options during this weekend.

CHRISTMAS
All residence halls will close for the Christmas break on Saturday, December 21st at 10am, and will open for the spring 2014 semester at 10am on Sunday, January 12th.  All students must leave their residence hall 24 hours after their last final or by 10am on December 21st, whichever comes first. Those students who have legitimate academic or extracurricular needs to stay late and/or leave early for break can fill out an extension request later in the semester.  However, please be aware that Housing’s student staffing is limited at this time, so an extension request is not necessarily a guarantee.

All apartment communities will stay open during Christmas break (students planning on staying in their apartment for all/part of Christmas will need to notify their RA at a later date).  Housing will have professional staff on call during this time.  Sodexo’s on-campus locations will not be open during the break.

For Christmas break, all of our closing and opening plans are subject to change with the possibility of severe weather.
