Not every student gets the chance to go home for some holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Easter. Sometimes, it can be rough seeing all of your friends leave for home while you worry about what you are going to do over break and how you can replace the absence of family and tradition. Thanks to a generous scholarship from Gonzaga’s Parent and Family Office, a group of students who belong to the Experiential Leadership Institute (ELI) are now offering a way to address the potential for loneliness during longer holiday breaks.

The ELI students recognized there were little or no events planned over Easter break for students staying in the residence halls to come together in community and have fun and celebrate. For Easter Sunday, the ELI group is planning to host a traditional Easter egg hunt on campus complete with candy and a raffle for prizes. The egg hunt will start at 2 PM on Sunday, April 20th starting on the front steps of Crosby Student Center. Afterwards the students will be invited to enjoy snacks and games in Crosby. The more Easter eggs one collects will increase their chances at winning a variety of raffle gift baskets. Overall, it is the group’s hope that such a traditional and fun event will bring students together in community to have fun, meet new friends perhaps, and remind them that they have family despite being far from home… they have a GU family!
