Not only does the Housing & Residence Life department house a large number of students – we also employ many students and professional staff to assist your student while he/she lives on campus. Below is a brief summary of a few of our positions.

Each living community has at least one Resident Assistant (RA). This is a trained student leader (a sophomore or older) who lives in community with residents. RAs are selected and trained to help residents develop a positive living, studying, and social environment. RAs assist students with personal and academic concerns, organize social and educational activities, and serve as a resource/guide primarily for students.

Each RA reports to a Residence Director (RD). These important staff members are full-time, permanent, professional employees with Master’s Degrees who live in a residence hall and supervise a “block” consisting of 250-400 residents. The RD serves as the direct supervisor of the RAs and works closely with parents/families when common issues arise. We also employ two Graduate Residence Directors (GRDs), who are full-time graduate students yet still have many of the same responsibilities as RDs. You can find contact information for each RD/GRD, including the buildings they oversee, on our website here.

Our department also employs two Area Coordinators (ACs). The Area Coordinators are full-time, professional staff members who live on-campus. They supervise the Residence Directors and provide overall guidance to the department in many areas, including student/staff selection and training, advising the Residence Hall Association, supporting Living-Learning Communities, and much more.

While our professional staff are mainly here to serve students, they also commonly communicate with parents and families. Feel free to send your student’s RD an email – they’d be happy to help in any way they can!

In addition, our main Housing office (located at 704 E Sharp) has many dedicated staff members ready to help with any questions related to room assignments, selection, and payment. You can reach the Housing office (open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm) at housing@gonzaga.edu or (509) 313-4103.
