First Year Experience Programs has opportunities for your Zag to be involved in our How to Zag Extended Orientation programs. We strongly believe Orientation is a process, not an event.  It takes time to learn what it means to be a Zag. Our students continue transitioning in this new chapter of their lives during the fall semester.

First Year Experience Programs and GUide Core, our student leadership team, will continue welcoming students throughout your Zag’s first semester by providing the How to Zag Workshops. The How to Zag Workshops are open to all new students.  Each one of the workshops address a different area of wellness, so that your student is able to transition in a holistic manner that is consistent with the University Mission Statement.

The program idea was created by a group of sophomores from the Experiential Leadership Institute (ELI) project proposals to address a need on campus. The students said, “these areas are ones we still wanted more information about during the first year.” How to Zag Workshops were envisioned by students, for students. We have two goals for the program:

  • To introduce students to a well-rounded representation of campus resources while grounding them with resources from these offices
  • To help students continuously develop a sense of belonging at Gonzaga University.

Some of your students may have familiarity with one or more of these concepts presented.  Maybe your student knows what career field they want to go into when they graduate.  Maybe they have been working for several years and have been responsible with their personal finances already.  Perhaps some students have not been exposed to situations that call on these areas, yet.  These are all perfectly acceptable!  How to Zag workshops will be of value, regardless of anyone’s background, because the Workshops will be tailored to your student’s new context at Gonzaga.

In their time at Gonzaga University, there will be countless new opportunities and challenges, and we want to make sure your student has every opportunity to build a strong foundation at Gonzaga in order to thrive in each aspect of their lives.  Remember, even if students are knowledgeable in an area, these workshops provide another space to meet more students.  We hope that you will encourage your students to attend.
