Our Blog

We know that students sometimes struggle to find where they fit in and how to grow in their faith when they get to college. Here are some of the University Ministry weekly programs and activities that provide great outlets for faith and relationship building:

Christian Life Communities“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God.  -Timothy Keller

Christian Life Communities, CLC’s, are weekly faith/life sharing groups where students get to be known. Students are invited to come together in small groups to reflect, pray, and share life with one another. Rooted in Ignatian Spirituality and Scripture, CLC empower students to journey together as they discern the movement of God in their lives. These small groups meet weekly and are made up of students from various Christian traditions. In a world that equates uniformity to unity, CLC’s diversity under a common mission calls us to believe in the reality of God’s love in order to become our fullest potential, and then to be sent out with the courage as men and women meant to transform the world.

Our small groups are coupled by fun events, which are a great way for students to make friends and build a great community. Need info? Contact Rev. Janeen Steer. Steerj@gonzaga.edu

Gonzaga Athlete Ministry

Many athletes and coaches, once thought to be ideal role models for today’s youth, are swept up in a culture that seems to abandon limits and a moral compass for a “win at all cost” mentality.

Athlete Ministry is a weekly group that unites two passions: faith and athletics.  It a place where our Division One athletes get to grow in their faith, wrestle with what it means to be a Christian Athlete, and have A LOT of fun in the process. Young Life College

“I’ve had a hard time finding a community on campus.  I found one with Young Life and now I want to welcome others at Gonzaga into it.” (Freshman at Gonzaga)

Young Life College is a relational ministry with the goal to REACH out to students on the other side of high school. It is a ministry focused on BUILDING trusting, no strings attached friendships, so that when it’s time to share who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him they are hearing from a trusted source. We LAUNCH students into deeper waters of faith and service in Christ, working towards the common good. Young Life seeks to connect with those who have no faith background as well as those who do, Young Life is for EVERYONE!

WHEN

We start with weekly large group activities to create our big YL OHANA (community) and we call that YL CLUB.

YOUNG LIFE CLUB – TUESDAY NIGHTS 7:29pm @ Hemmingson 314.

From there students sign up to live life together in a Young Life CLC (small groups on various days/times on campus)!  We believe that when students feel known and loved in a healthy community they will choose that every time over an unhealthy one.

Contact Kyle “KJ” Johnson (kjyounglife@gmail.com; 509-220-9386) if you have any questions or are interested in being involved in a CLC.

Men’s Ministry

Men’s Ministry believes in the development of a community based in relationships oriented toward love. We embrace personal growth by admitting each individual is made for more and comes with their own story. The sharing of these stories enables us to walk with others as family rooted in intentionality, vulnerability, authenticity, and joy.

Men’s Ministry, emboldened by our Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic heritage and identity, challenges the current notions of manhood and calls men to a holistic embrace of authentic identity. This is done through retreats, events, leadership training panels, prayer groups, discussion groups, book groups, activism, social justice, spiritual development, and community building and engagement.

Men’s Ministry meets each Tuesday at 8:30am at the Hemmingson Hearth for a coffee hour examining issues of faith, spirituality, community, life at GU, and ways to grow together and make the world more loving place. Questions?  Contact Luke Lavin: lavin@gonzaga.edu.
