As midterms come to an end and the holidays are in sight, what better time to connect with your student to complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA! Your student may be headed home for the Thanksgiving holiday; this is a perfect time to sit down together to complete this important step in planning for the next academic year.

The Office of Financial Aid is currently preparing for the 2018-2019 financial aid year and are here to answer any questions you may have about the process. Some helpful tips to remember:

Both you and your student will need to apply for or retrieve your FSA ID for FAFSA completion. It is recommended that you keep your FSA ID information in a safe place where it can easily be retrieved.

The 2018-2019 FAFSA is based on 2016 tax information. If you’ve had a significant change in status this year, we can discuss your situation to see if we might be able to assist you in navigating your special circumstances.

Although there have been many concerns with the data retrieval tool in the past, we encourage you to complete the IRS data transfer through FAFSA for the most accurate information reported. Please be aware that, as an extra security measure this year, you will NOT be able to see any of the information that is transferred from the IRS. You will see the words “transferred from the IRS” for the line items that have been carried over.

Our office is happy to answer any questions you may have about the process and hope many of you will soon be enjoying a visit with your student! Financial Aid, Student Employment, Student Accounts, and Campus Card Services will be closed November 16th and 17th because we are moving to the Crosby Building lower level.
