Spotlight on Spokane: Winter Skiing and Outdoor Recreation
It is so important for all of us to stay active, even when it is cold out. Spokane offers outdoor adventure during every season of the year. The winter is no exception! Last month, we highlighted the new Riverfront Park Ice Ribbon, which has hosted thousands of skaters since opening on December 8.
Winter recreation can be discovered and enjoyed throughout the greater Spokane area. There are 5 ski resorts within a 2-hour drive of Spokane! Gonzaga Outdoors offers a variety of snow gear available to rent to students, including skis, snowboards, boots, helmets and snowshoes. Mt. Spokane is located only 28 miles from downtown Spokane. A little further north, your student can explore 49 Degrees North. East of Spokane, your student will enjoy the winter wonderland at Schweitzer Mountain Resort or Silver Mountain Resort. A little farther afield, on the Idaho/Montana border, sits Lookout Pass.
Whether your student is a beginner or expert on the slopes, there is sure to be something for them to try at any one of the mountains in the Spokane area. Encourage them to get outdoors and stay active, even in these cold winter weeks.
