A bike is a substantial investment when going to college and a very popular item for theft. Registering your bike helps Campus Security and Public Safety and the police in identifying and returning a found or stolen bike to the owner. Registration is FREE at Gonzaga University and required if you are bringing a bike to campus. There are two ways to do this: online at https://www.gonzaga.edu/about/our-campus-location/campus-safety/services/bicycle-registration or in person at the Campus Security and Public Safety Office and the Housing and Residence Life Office.  The following information is needed in order to register your bike: serial number, make, model, color, contact information, and optional picture. The serial number you provide links your bike to you. The permit number assigned to your bike makes it easier to contact you.

One way you can help ensure your bike does not go missing is to secure your bike with a solid U-Lock. The majority of bikes stolen on campus are either not secured with a U-Lock or are not locked properly. The U-Lock makes it difficult to break by pry bars, hammers, freezing, hacksaws, and bolt cutters. It can take a thief seconds to cut through a chain or cable lock. It is worth the $20-40 to secure your investment safely. Also, check on your bike regularly if you secure it to a bike rack. Bike lockers are available through the Housing and Residence Life Office and bike cages are available first come first serve. Both of these options provide a more secure area for storing your bike.

Owners must remove their bikes from residence halls at the end of each academic school year. Any bikes left behind after move-out are considered abandoned and will be collected by Campus Security and Public Safety. The bikes and parts are held for 60 days and if not claimed, are donated to local charities. For a list of current bikes collected please, check www.Gonzaga.edu/Lostandfound regularly as it can change daily. Please remember you will need the serial number to claim the bike.
