Our Blog

Dear Parents and Families,

I am Sara Skornik, the 2018 Logistics Coordinator. On behalf of Family Core, Parent and Family Crew, and Parent and Family Relations, I would like to formally welcome you to Gonzaga University. As you embark on this journey, whether you are a first- generation collegiate family or you are attending your “tenth rodeo” this August, I would like to share a quote that I strive to live by: “where you are right now is exactly where you are meant to be.” While there are many ways to phrase the previous quote, the most important part is the “right now.” To be present in the now is simply the best thing you can do for yourself. The days of running around a high- school athlete or an academic decathlon member, late night dances and pep rallies, and coming home to one another and recapping over a home cooked meal are dwindling. Savor each day and realize, as you come to campus on August 24th, that you have truly done your best. Remember that your unconditional love, nurture, and support have led them to this new moment of discovery. Your student is taking their first step into adulthood. I implore you to put aside your fears and come to Orientation Weekend with an open mind and a willingness to be present.

The student orientation team, also known as Family Core, have worked diligently over the summer to ensure your student’s Orientation Weekend is one that they will remember. From the moment you and your student arrive on campus, it will be evident that Gonzaga carries a passion and desire to learn, an environment which buzzes with various events and connections and a community cultivated with love and authenticity. All of Gonzaga’s student development professionals, faculty and current students are coming together, at the end of this month, to ensure that Orientation Weekend will not only be informative and useful for our parents and families, but also welcoming and reassuring.

Should you have any questions, comments or concerns between now and Orientation, please contact the Parent and Family Relations at 509 – 313 – 5399. Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer and be present! Family Core and I look forward to meeting you on August 24th.

Please remember to register for Parent and Family Orientation HERE!

Best,

Sara Skornik
